There was a classic TV commercial for Listerine, which is the taste you hate twice a day. It was genius marketing because Listerine at the time tasted similar to gasoline, and their main competitor, Scope, was minty fresh. So rather than try to overcome the bad taste, Listerine fell on the sword, so to speak, and advertised that it tasted like medicine because it was, which means it works well.
The same can be said for accountability. It’s a lot easier to meander through life doing what’s pleasant and enjoyable at the time. But at some point, you come to your senses and realize you’re not accomplishing the big things you want in life.
Every successful person says the same thing. There is some toil and sacrifice and maybe even some unpleasantness required to accomplish the goals. Accountability, and more specifically, working with an accountability partner, can help get you through those tough times and keep you focused on the prize at the end of the journey.
It’s a rare individual who can power through these tough moments and hold themselves to their long-term goals.
